Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in partnership with The Dollywood Foundation
Through this program Leslie County children newborn to five years old can receive a brand new book in the mail each month. Books are age appropriate and contain ideas promoting love of reading and learning, regard for diversity of people, self-esteem and confidence, appreciation of art, and school readiness, among other things. These books are colorful, fun, and educational.
Dolly Parton began this program in 1996 in her home county of Sevier County, Tennessee. A local organization champions the program by raising money to pay for the books, registering children, and working with The Dollywood Foundation to ensure delivery of books. In Leslie County this organization is COLLY.
If you know of a Leslie County child, newborn to five years old, who is not registered in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, registration brochures are available at the Leslie County Public Library, the Leslie County Health Department, any of our school clinics, or from COLLY. Parents are children’s first and most important teachers; please read to your child!
Since becoming involved in this program, COLLY has registered over 500 children to receive books!

In conjunction with this dental work, COLLY has partnered with the Leslie County Extension Office to provide dental education with 1st through 3rd graders. After School Club in partnership with Leslie County Elementary Schools
A goal of the health care clinics at our elementary schools is to create and support a culture of healthy living. In line with this goal, COLLY has partnered with school staff to hold an after school program two days a week at all four Leslie County Elementary Schools. During this program children participate in health and science enrichment activities as well as various physical activities. Reading and math skills are emphasized in these activities. Healthy snacks are provided; children are encouraged to try a variety of foods they may not regularly be exposed to.
After School Club provides a safe, healthy, and fun after school experience for all participating students.
